While killing time one Sunday, waiting for Ksk to meet me, I thought “I’ll just have a quick look in Plaza (cosmetic store) “. As I’ve recently fallen for Revlon’s Black Cherry lipstick, which is a gorgeous dark berry, burgundy colour and wanted to look for it.
First I checked out the revlon.jp site to see if Japan even sells it. No, they don’t.
“Maybe they have it store?” I told myself …….or at least tried to justify my reason for going to Plaza. No, they didn’t. So no luck there.
However, since Bourjois have now left Japan 😦 , my local Plaza have had a shuffle of their displays. That means , the nail polish display is now new and much bigger :D. (oh no)
While admiring the new display, I stumbled upon this polish. It’s called Lapis of Luxury by Essie.

Described by Essie as an azure. This polish is DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free. 😀
It’s not azure though. What appealed to me, was how unique a colour it is. I stood there for a moment, mentally checking my collection back home and concluded … no I don’t have a colour like this. Not even close.
I have a lilac and I have a corn flower blue but this is different. This is periwinkle, periwinkle blue to be more precise. It feels sophisticated and elegant. I like this colour so much, that for the first time in what feels like two years, I have paint all my nails the same colour. I usually always paint them using two different colours.
I was impressed with the formula too, the last Essie polish I used (Tart Deco), was a bit disappointing/chalky and did not react well to a top coat being applied(changed the colour).

Lapis of luxury, however applies smoothly and effortlessly, most likely due to it’s jelly/creme like texture. To get it fully opaque, I applied 3 thin coats ( but I usually like to apply 2 or 3 thin coats anyway) it was however still a bit sheer in places but not that noticeably. As for chipping, I’ve had it on my nails since Sunday and it seems to be surviving well.
Overall, even though it is early days, I am very impressed with the formula of this polish and I utterly adore the colour. I suspect I will be wearing this a lot in the next couple of months.
What’s your favourite polish at the moment?
