June Favourites.

Writer: Alanna KAlanna K

Wow, June has just flown by! I can’t believe it’s July already.

It’s rare that I mention Japanese cosmetics. Why not? Well, I already have a lot of western products that I love and often the colour range of Japanese cosmetics just don’t appeal to me. I’m too pale for the base products, and I like bright lipsticks and eyeshadows. But I do love Japanese eyeliners, mascaras, eye brow products and blusher!

First favourite of June is Majolica Majorca – Puff de Cheek in Cherry (a limited edition colour:( sorry ). In my swatches, it looks quite sheer and subtle but it can be easy to over do it and end up looking rather red. Not only is the packaging cute, it’s pretty practical too, as inside there is a little puff for applying the blush.

Once I’d worked out how to not apply to much , I really started to like this product, it adds a lovely flush and not too much sparkle. I am very tempted to try other colours in the range. Nic in Tokyo has a lovely post about this blush too (psst her post was the reason I bought it) .

Back in April, I mentioned Rimmel’s Exaggerate lip pencil in #2 as a favourite, it’s back again in June’s most loved. However, this month I’ve loved pairing it with YSL’S Rouge Pur Couture in #6. The YSL is a long time favourite, and putting it over the Rimmel lip liner, seems to make it last a little longer.

I don’t buy eye shadow from Japanese brands in general, as my Urban Decay Naked palette has me covered on most fronts. But after watching so many Vivianne Does Make up videos and hearing her talk about a bronze eye, I felt I needed to get on that band wagon. After trying and failing to get the MAC shadow I wanted (they don’t sell it in Japan), I stumbled upon this palette while looking for a white nail polish.

It’s Canmake shiny eyes palette in #14 and I am really impressed with it. Not only is it cheap (680 yen) but it’s actually really good quality and easy to apply. Totally unexpected from a budget drug store brand.

When I met up with Nic in Tokyo early in the month, she gave me this hair treatment by Agarna and I love it. It makes my hair so soft, and I’ve used it every time I’ve washed my hair since she gave it to me.

Recently I’ve been trying to add in a study favourite of the month, partly as a incentive for myself and also because I feel I should share my study materials. So this month’s most loved is a long time favourite, it’s Complete Master Series Level 3.

My friend gave me a lot of study materials that he no longer wanted and this book was among them. This particular edition is no longer available but they have issued an updated one here.

I love this book because it clearly shows all the grammar points and it doesn’t contain too much English. One of the reasons I don’t like the Genki and Busy people series is because they feel like they have more English than Japanese. Which works for some, but it does not work for me.

I like books with very little English, and this fulfils my criteria. It’s aimed at old JLPT Level 3, so current JLPT 4, all the points are clearly explained and have exercises too.

And finally, another non beauty fave, a simple velvet black choker from Wego. I’ve fallen for chokers recently and this one is my current fave.

Tried any of these items? What are your June favourites?

Thank you for reading.
