In Japan from the 1st of January, lots of shops release Fukubukuro(福袋ーふくぶくろ) “lucky bags” filled with goods and sold for less than their RRP. You can get clothing store lucky bags, electronic store lucky bags, many different shops release bags. And so do some cosmetics companies. It’s not just in the New Year too, I’ve seen make up lucky bags in the summer as well, but the word Fukubukuro is used for the first lucky bags of each year.

After seeing Mimei’s video about the Revlon winter fukubukuro, I tried to resist. Then I saw Liquorice pearl’s post about the Revlon bag, and well, while out shopping for gifts for Ksk, I may have bought it. My first lucky back ever actually, as I tend to avoid the shops around New Years time. Too busy for my liking.

With most lucky bags, you can’t see the contents. You might know what kind of product you will get but you don’t get to see the exact one. However MiniPlaza’s lucky bags were presented with all the products on display outside of the bag but still sealed in a plastic bag. Defeats the point of it being “lucky” and a mystery but eh, I’m not really complaining. It meant I didn’t waste any money on products I won’t use. I don’t really like gambling.

So here is what I got (picked):

What do you think about the lucky bag concept?

Thank you for reading,
